Kate Spanos Irish Dance makes its debut

On Saturday, “Kate Spanos Irish Dance” had our debut performance at the 65th Childhelp Shining Stars Gala in Tysons Corner, VA! Childhelp is a “a national organization dedicated to eradicating child abuse and neglect.” I gathered a group of the area’s top dancers to perform two original choreographies—a high-energy treble reel danced to Afro Celt Sound System’s “Whirl-Y Reel” and a fun oldies-inspired performance to “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and the Comets (performed live by ONYX). We were also joined on stage by the event’s emcee and comedienne/actor Melissa Peterman! Thanks to the organizers for inviting us to perform at their gala, which happened to fall on St. Patrick’s weekend this year!

I am also excited about two more upcoming performances in April! On Saturday, April 13, I’ll present a trio performance of an elegant festival style slip jig at M-NCPCC’s annual International Dance Experience at the Prince George’s Ballroom. On Saturday, April 27, I’ll present a showcase of festival style Irish dances (soft shoe and hard shoe) at the annual Celtic Festival of Southern Maryland in St. Leonard.

For these gigs I had to come up with a name for my dance group, and for now, Kate Spanos Irish Dance seems like the most obvious choice ☺️ Watch this space for more to come!
