Mini documentary about Folklife Apprenticeship in Irish Step Dance

Mini documentary about Folklife Apprenticeship in Irish Step Dance MSAC Folklife Apprenticeship Grant. Wide Angle Youth Media.

I’m thrilled with the release of this mini documentary about my work teaching Irish step dance to fellow percussive dancer Becky Hill through the Maryland State Art Council‘s Folklife Apprenticeship Grant in 2021-22. We focused our work on the Molyneaux Blackbird, a version of the Blackbird set dance by dance master Jeremiah Molyneaux of North Kerry (circa 1881–1965).

Thanks to Wide Angle Youth Media for producing this beautiful documentation of our work! I must also recognize the musicians who participated in the video: Sarah Collins (fiddle), David McKindley-Ward (tenor banjo), Matt Mulqueen (piano), and especially Marty Frye (flute), who offered to let us use his amazing house for the video shoot (the same house known as Hamlin Street Diner that produces so many excellent traditional music concerts). Thanks also to the College Park Arts Exchange, who partnered with EducArte to produce our first céilí in College Park, and the College Park Community Foundation for funding the céilí.
