Greenflea at Auctiva
May 24, 2010
My co-worker Steve Swim has written a blog about Greenflea Niche Marketplace, a marketplace developed by Steve, Dave Bierbaum and myself for Auctiva’s internal developer contest. This idea for a “green” marketplace powered by the Auctiva Marketplace Platform (AMP) got us a 2nd place trophy in the contest!

Coming up on Thursday 5 April is the 2nd annual CSS Naked Day – check out the details at CSS Naked Day ’07. My site will be participating in the nudity again this year, so come on and join in the fun!
Short course cancelled
February 27, 2006
Sadly, this semester’s short course was cancelled due to low enrollment. The good news, however, is that I’ll be giving group lessons on weekends for anyone in the area who is preparing for springtime feisanna, especially the 28 May Emmitsburg Feis.
Things have been dull lately. With these dreary winter days, there hasn’t been much for me to practice my photography skills (or lack thereof) on. I’m in the middle of a web design project for MDC that’s progressing slowly. I’ve spent the past two weeks heavily involved in watching the 2006 Torino Games and doing a lot of Irish dancing practice for my own steps. I’m working on my new set dances, Piper Through the Meadow Strayin’ and Planxty Drury, both of which I composed myself based on hornpipe and treble jig steps I learned at various workshops.
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up and a group of us is trying to get permission to dance at O’Neil’s on The Corner. I’m also looking for a new apartment, with less than five months left in my current place.
Design Updates
January 19, 2006
I took on a new web design project a couple weeks ago for Media Design Coporation (as of today 1/19 I still haven’t touched the actual site, so what you see is the page in its original form). I created a nice, simple template which I’m waiting for feedback on. I’m quite pleased with it–this is one of the first sites I’ve done that hasn’t fallen victim to my terrible habit of over-design (and I could have linked that keyword “over-design” to any number of the other sites I’ve done…).
And speaking of design, my site underwent a minor CSS change last weekend. I’d seen some nice things out there lately and I was getting sick of my old look. I’m now using some bolder colors and fewer graphics.
Also, this past weekend I did a minor re-design of the Kennedy Collection site in order to follow ‘best practices,’ i.e., not use red text on a black background. I’m really happy with the results–the home page still needs some content and of course the artifact galleries themselves need to be filled in with titles and descriptions, but the look & feel of the site is good. Very DBK.
Random comment: iPod greatly improves the quality of my work and, more importantly, the quality of my mood.
